Notorious Prison Rapper Remtrex Back Behind Bars Over 2019 County Lines Drugs Operation

Writer: Jason KingJason King

Hi and welcome to this JK B'HAM Crime Report for VPN.

Demehl Thomas, better known as the Birmingham rapper Remtrex, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for his involvement in a county lines drug trafficking operation. This relates to offences committed around 2019, with the rapper said to have abandoned criminal activity since that time.

This won't be the first time in jail for Thomas, who gained notoriety for his freestyle rap videos recorded in prison. He was sentenced to five years in 2012 for aggravated burglary, but his sentence was extended by nine months after he recorded a rap video while incarcerated.

In 2019, Thomas was arrested as part of an investigation by the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) into the distribution of Class A drugs from Birmingham to Huddersfield. The investigation led to the recovery of half a kilo of cocaine and over £14,000 in cash, resulting in charges of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. Thomas, who is also known for his music career under the name Remtrex, was convicted following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court on July 18, 2024.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Cooke of ROCU emphasized the importance of this conviction, noting that it is part of a broader effort to dismantle drug supply chains that not only devastate lives but also fuel further criminal activity. This case marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation, with four individuals now jailed as a result.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
