Hello and welcome to this Jason King Insight.
A convicted drug dealer has been handed an additional five-year prison sentence after authorities linked him to a firearm uncovered during a warrant in Sandwell.
The incident dates back to December 2021 when law enforcement officers executed a warrant at the residence of Simon Malhi in Tipton. Malhi had previously received a six-year sentence in 2022 for possession of a firearm, ammunition, and Class B drugs.
Relating to this, Dari was already serving a 12 year sentence for supplying drugs. He and two of his cousins were caught running a major drugs operation from their grandma's house. Police seized drugs with a street value of £150,000 as well as large amounts of cash. The criminal operation handled several kilograms of drugs a week, including homemade crack cocaine.
During the search of the house of their junior criminal associate Simon Malhi, a 9mm pistol was discovered concealed within a manbag under Malhi's bed, alongside five rounds of ammunition and cannabis.
As a result of further diligent investigations crucial CCTV footage was obtained which revealed that Gurvinder Dari had provided the manbag containing the firearm to Malhi, to keep for the gang to potentially use in further criminal acts of serious violence.
Last Tuesday, 30-year-old Dari appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court where he was sentenced to an additional five years for possession of a firearm and ammunition, to be served consecutively with his existing prison term.
Detective Constable Ed Costello from the Major Crime - Proactive Unit commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of dismantling criminal networks: "We obtained CCTV footage of Dari handing Malhi a man bag containing the firearm which could have been used for further criminality. Dari got Malhi to do his dirty work for him and hide the dangerous weapon at his address. However, we're well-versed in carrying out such searches so were able to recover the weapon along with the ammunition. Dari will now face extra time behind bars."
This development coincides with Operation Target, a concerted effort to combat serious and organized crime. Under this initiative, law enforcement officers are leveraging local intelligence, conducting targeted raids, seizing illicit goods, and apprehending suspects as part of an ongoing crackdown on criminal activities.
Communities continue to demand that authorities continue to tackle the nexus between drug trafficking and firearm offenses, fighting for community safety and upholding the rule of law.
Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned and stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
