Breaking News: Former Met Police Officer Guilty of Sickening Crimes

Updated: Feb 22

Former Metropolitan Police officer Cliff Mitchell, 24, has been found Guilty, of a disturbing array of sexual offenses, including multiple counts of rape, some involving children under 13. Mitchell's reign of terror included threatening his victims with a knife, binding them with cable ties, and inflicting unimaginable trauma.

Following a previous rape investigation in 2017, Mitchell faced no further action. However, subsequent to his arrest, this case underwent further scrutiny, leading to Mitchell being charged with an additional three counts of rape involving a child under 13, as well as three counts of rape. These additional charges pertain to a separate victim and occurred between 2014 and 2017.

In December 2023, Mitchell was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police following an expedited misconduct hearing due to a breach of a non-molestation order that had been in effect since July 20, 2023. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy expressed his dismay, labeling the case as profoundly disturbing. He condemned Mitchell's reprehensible conduct and commended the bravery of the victims for their courage in coming forward and providing testimony during the trial.

Mitchell perpetrated a prolonged pattern of abuse against both victims, further exacerbating the trauma by undermining one victim's credibility due to his status as a police officer. This flagrant abuse of authority adds another layer of depravity to Mitchell's reprehensible actions.

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Mitchell visited the residence of a woman, where he committed the heinous act of raping her at knifepoint. After blindfolding her with his hooded top and restraining her with cable ties, he forcibly transported her in his vehicle. However, the victim managed to escape, seeking refuge from a passing member of the public who assisted her and promptly alerted emergency services.

Mitchell's vehicle was subsequently intercepted and he was apprehended approximately seven miles away in Putney. An urgent investigation was initiated by the Metropolitan Police's specialized team dedicated to handling cases of domestic abuse and sexual offenses.

During a tearful police interview presented to the jury at Croydon Crown Court, the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, recounted Mitchell's menacing threats. Describing the terrifying ordeal, she recalled how Mitchell brandished a knife, warning her of dire consequences if she dared to resist.

He callously bound her hands with cable ties, all the while subjecting her to verbal abuse. She described feeling as though the ordeal was akin to a sick game to Mitchell, who further intimidated her by boasting about his knowledge of disposing of bodies, citing his status as a police officer. Subsequently, she alleged that he coerced her and another individual into his car, perpetuating the nightmare.

Mitchell's despicable conduct extends beyond this single incident, with additional charges stemming from a previous rape investigation in 2017. Despite being entrusted with upholding the law, Mitchell brazenly abused his authority, exploiting his position to instill fear and perpetrate unspeakable acts of violence.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy condemned Mitchell's actions, emphasizing the courage of the victims who came forward to seek justice. Mitchell's dismissal from the force in December 2023 underscores the Metropolitan Police's commitment to rooting out corruption and safeguarding the public trust.

"I am aware that this case may undermine public confidence in our institution. However, we are taking unprecedented measures to cleanse the Metropolitan Police of any individuals who tarnish our reputation. This includes substantial investments in our professional standards team and recruiting specialized personnel to address criminality and misconduct. Dismissing officers who violate our standards is an integral part of this process. Mitchell's dismissal in December 2023 underscores our commitment to swift action, independent of today's conviction."

As the community grapples with the fallout of this appalling case, it serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for accountability and reform within law enforcement and in particular the Metropolitan Police Force..
