Writer: Jason KingJason King

Hi and welcome to this JK NEWS B'HAM Crime Report for VPN: REGIONAL NETWORKS:

A Birmingham man who fled to Pakistan after being convicted of kidnapping, robbery, and drug offences is now behind bars, serving an 11-year sentence.

Hassan Rauf, 27, from Yardley, was sentenced in absentia in March 2020 after escaping justice before his trial. He was convicted of kidnapping a college student, robbing him, and burgling his home, as well as supplying Class A drugs in Worcester.

Rauf fled the country while his two co-defendants began their prison terms. He remained on the run until his return to the UK in August 2024, where he was arrested upon arrival. On October 10, Teesside Crown Court added three months to his original sentence for failing to attend court, bringing his total time behind bars to 11 years and three months.

Detective Sergeant Craig Tennant said: “Rauf tried to evade justice, but we were determined to bring him back and ensure he served his sentence. This sends a clear message – fleeing won’t help you escape justice.”

Rauf is now serving his time alongside his co-defendants.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
