Hi and welcome to this JK B'HAM Crime Report for VPN: REGIONAL NETWORKS:

A 14-year-old boy has been remanded in custody after appearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today, charged with the murder of 12-year-old Leo Ross.

The accused, who cannot be named due to his age, is set to appear at Birmingham Crown Court tomorrow.

It has come to light that in addition to murder charge, he faces six counts of assault and possession of a bladed article from previous violent incidents dating from October last year:

The alleged offences include:

  • 1. October 22, 2024: Assault on a woman.

  • 2. November 26, 2024: Assault on two police officers.

  • 3. January 19, 2025: Serious assault on a woman in her 80s.

  • 4. January 20, 2025: Another serious assault on a woman.

  • 5. January 21, 2025: Assault on a woman.

In light of the serious allegations against the accused and the timeline of events, questions arise about whether early intervention could have prevented this tragedy. The offences dating back to late 2024 suggest a pattern of escalating violence. It remains to be seen whether authorities had opportunities to address his behaviour sooner.

Schoolboy Leo Ross fatally stabbed in the stomach last week while walking home from school near Scribers Lane in Hall Green. Despite the efforts of emergency services and members of the public, Leo succumbed to his injuries in hospital later that evening.

Leo’s family, in a heartfelt statement, described him as an “amazing, kind, and loving boy” whose death has left their lives “shattered.” Tributes have poured in from the community, with many calling for stronger measures to tackle youth violence.

West Midlands Police are continuing their investigation, and the boy remains in custody and will appear before a judge at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday.

Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
